Board urges participation in election

The Brookhaven School District Board of Trustees Thursday urgedresidents of Lincoln County to remember to vote in the March 3election for a seat on the school district’s governing board.

“I encourage all residents of Lincoln County who reside in ourschool district, but outside the city, to … get up and mark yourcalendars on March 3,” wrote School Board President Carl Aycock,who is up for re-election.

Tommy Sproles has also qualified to seek the school boardpost.

Aycock’s statement went on to say the election is important notonly to the school district, but to the community as well.

“Even if you don’t have children or grandchildren in ourschools, it’s vital for you to vote,” he said. “Our childrendeserve your involvement.”

The polls will be open at the Brookhaven High School Gym from 1p.m. to 6 p.m. March 3.

In other business Thursday, the board voted to allow BrookhavenHigh School to host a golf tournament March 3 at the BrookhavenCountry Club.

The board also granted permission to allow the BrookhavenElementary Fourth Grade to visit Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile,Ala., on March 1. The purpose of the trip is to study the plants ondisplay and to tie them in to their studies of Europeanliterature.

Also Thursday, the school board approved the financial reportgiven by Susan Quin, as well as a new bus turnaround, severaldonations to the district and some personnel issues.

An executive session was also held to discuss a personnel issueand a student issue.
