Master Sergeant William Craig Reid, 48, of Monticello, went hometo his Heavenly Father on March 1, 2007, as a result of injuries ina motor-vehicle accident. He was an active member of MonticelloBaptist Church where he served as a deacon. His compassion andconcern for children and the lost led him to start an OperationChristmas Child Relay center at his church.

Master Sgt. Reid enlisted in the Mississippi National Guard onMarch 10, 1977. He began working full time for the National Guardunder the Active Guard and Reserves Program on June 13, 1985.Master Sgt. Reid was deployed to Desert Storm in December of 1990and Operation Iraqi Freedom in July 2004. Master Sgt. Reid wasdeployed to Iraq in January 2005 and returned home in December2005. While deployed, he received the Iraqi Campaign Medal (with Mdevice), Army Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon,Mississippi War Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, theMississippi Magnolia Cross, and the Bronze Star Medal. Master Sgt.Reid accomplished many milestones while serving in variousleadership roles throughout the Army National Guard.

Craig is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan; his threechildren, Matthew, of Tupelo; and Julie and Andrew, of Monticello;grandson, Parker Landrum, of Monticello; three brothers, Dr. RustyReid and Skip Reid, both of Monticello; and Phillip Reid, ofBrookhaven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cannon and TommieReid.

Funeral services will be held at Monticello Baptist Church at 3p.m. on Sunday, March 4. Dr. Jon Daniels will officiate.

Active pallbearers are Staff Sgt. Matt Holmes, Sgt. 1st ClassPhilip “Bud” Ladd, Master Sgt. Mikell Sandifer, Maj. Lynn Pippen,Spc. Jeremy Davis, Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth Smith, and Capt. RollinRoberts.

Honorary pallbearers are Monticello Baptist Church deacons, DickReeves, Glynn Vince, Randy Jones, Joe Boone, Mike Donohoe, SammieHenry, Jose “Chi-Chi” Maldonado, and members of the 106th BSB.

Music will be provided by Kim Reeves and Dr. Jon Daniels.

Interment will follow in Monticello Baptist Church Cemetery withfull military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monticello BaptistChurch Building Fund or Monticello Baptist Church OperationChristmas Child Project.
