Panthers rip Eagles 10-0

Brookhaven’s Paxton King hurled a no-hitter Thursday night inleading the host Panthers to a 10-0 Division 6-4A baseball win overthe Florence Eagles at Moyer Field. King fanned 9 batters andwalked 1. King, who struck out 9 batters and walked 1, was one walkaway from a perfect game.
“Paxton was outstanding on the mound,” said Brookhaven coachRandy Spring. “He stayed within the strike zone.”
The losing pitcher was Jay Sandifer with 4 strikeouts and 8walks in the five-inning contest.
Florence also committed 4 errors. Brookhaven had none.
Brookhaven went up 1-0 in the second inning off a King doublethat left the bases.
Nick Helmsetter scored in the bottom of the second after leadoff walk. Helmsetter’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the thirdplate Budd Britt.
A number of walks by Sandifer in the fourth and fifth inningclosed out the game in the bottom of the fifth under the 10-runrule.
Elliott Warren directed the Panthers with 2 doubles. Britt,Mitch Pappas, Cody Ratcliff and R.J. Jenkins singled.
Brookhaven travels to Florence Monday for 2 games, beginning at4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity followed by varsity play at7.
