Loyd Star comes back to knock McLaurin

FLORENCE — The Loyd Star Hornets exploded for 5 runs in theseventh inning for a 10-7 come-from-behind win over the McLaurinTigers in Division 6-2A baseball action Tuesday night.
McLaurin led Loyd Star 7-5 before the comeback.
Loyd Star (12-4, 1-1) is coached by Jonathan Breakfield.
“We played well,” said Breakfield. “Our guys played scrappy,hard-winning baseball.”
Loyd Star returns home Friday to host McLaurin for a varsitydoubleheader. The first game begins at 4:30 p.m.
Josh McCaffrey (1-0) got the win and Jarred Rogers took the savein the seventh inning. Starter Evan Smith worked five innings,fanning 4 batters, walking 2 and allowing 2 unearned runs.
Jimmy Wilson took the loss.
At the plate, Hunter Speeg sparked the Hornets with a triple anda double. Drew Weaver and Rogers drilled a double and a singleapiece. Singling twice was Casey Falvey.
In the junior varsity game, McLaurin beat LoydStar 7-0.
