It was a slow start, but a fast finish for the Brookhaven LadyPanthers Thursday night at the Lady Panther Softball Complexagainst division-foe McComb. Ole Brook picked up 7 runs in thesixth to author a 10-1 Division 6-4A win over the Lady Tigers.

Lady Panther head coach Chad Walker saw his team belt out 11hits, with all 9 batters in the lineup scoring at least 1 run.Starting pitcher Terri Hodges fanned 14 Lady Tigers while giving up1 earned run on 4 hits.

Brookhaven participates in the Loyd Star tournament Saturday.

Ole Brook (14-5, 5-1) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.Hannah Lowman and Kelsey Freeman hit consecutive singles. Hodgesreached on a fielding error that allowed Lowman to score. SabrinaDelaughter’ sacrifice fly to centerfield scored Freeman. KatieStewart’s ground out to third, allow Freeman to score.

Both teams cooled off over the next 4 innings, as Hodges and McCombeighth-grade pitcher Megan Coney took center stage.

Coney, who suffered the loss, did not get a strikeout in thegame, but had plenty of defensive support from her teammates.

The Lady Tigers (5-13, 1-5) got their lone run in the sixth.Centerfielder Niara Crimiel walked. Candace Church singled. Twobatters later, K.T. Perkins reached on a fielder’s choice to loadthe bases. Annie Artiques’ single scored Crimiel, but McComb stilltrailed 3-1.

Artiques led Tiger head coach Gregg Slaughter’s ballclub with 2singles.

Walker’s crew would explode for 7 runs and 7 hits in the bottom ofthe sixth. Freeman, Delaughter, Stewart, Brianna Ashmore, JordanBeeson, Brittany Bateman and Karlee Martin crossing homeplate.Delaughter’s 2-out triple, that scored Martin and Freeman,highlighted the inning.

“We got started slowly, but we were able to finish strong,” saidCoach Walker following the game. “We got Terry (Tuesday) andLawrence County (Thursday) next week at home. Two big games forus.”

Freeman led Ole Brook with 2 runs scored. Delaughter doubled andtripled. Ashmore had a single and a triple. Also collecting hitswere Stewart, Beeson, and Martin. Bateman doubled.
