W. Lincoln’s Huff handcuffs Franklin Co. with 2-hitter

Pitcher Heather Huff handcuffed the Franklin County LadyBulldogs with a 2-hit shutout, leading the host West Lincoln LadyBears to a 5-0 fastpitch softball win Friday. Huff struck out 1batter and walked none.

“We did what we wanted to do by scoring early,” said WestLincoln coach Andrew Redd. “Our defense backed up Heather and did agood job.”

Redd’s Lady Bears (11-6, 4-2) jumped on Franklin County (10-12)for 3 runs in the bottom of the first. They got a home run and atriple from second baseman Alexis Cook.

“We had five errors and that cost us five runs,” said FranklinCounty coach Dana Smith. “Heather Huff did a good job jamming us.She worked the plate and we struggled to put the ball in play.”

Smith got singles from Courtney Reid and Kristen Oglesby. Losingpitcher Melissa McFarland fanned 7 batters, walked 2 and hit 3.

Junior Varsity Action

Franklin County clipped West Lincoln 2-1 in the JV game. HeidiThornton (6 Ks, 4 BBs) was the winning pitcher. Alexis Cook (2 Ks,0 BBs) took the loss.

At the plate, Franklin County got 2 hits from Thornton andShaniquia Cameron. Leighton Robertson and Katie Forman singled.

A double by Katie Mullins led the Lady Bears in batting.
