Services for Ruth Brown Summers, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Monday, April 9, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel’s Natchez Drivelocation with burial in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Summers, 84, died April 6, 2007, at her residence. She wasborn in Meridian on Feb. 18, 1923, the fifth of seven children bornto Louie Brown and Sally Tolbert Brown.

After graduating from Center Hill High School and SouthernBusiness College in Meridian, she worked as a secretary with theU.S. Department of Agriculture and then as district secretary withthe Mississippi Forestry Commission in Meridian. She married JuliusSummers in 1950.

After living in Searcy, Ark. for more than two years, the couplemoved to Brookhaven in 1959. There, Mrs. Summers continued being anactive member of First Baptist Church where she served on a numberof committees and taught in the children and youth areas andVacation Bible School for many years. She also worked for more than15 years at Brookhaven Bank as the executive secretary.

In later years, she was privileged to travel with her husbandboth nationally and internationally as he worked business accountsat both levels.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her sisters, ElaineMerrill and Robbie Chisolm.

Survivors are her husband, Julius Summers, of Brookhaven; herdaughters, Suzette Summers Young and husband Stennis, and JuliSummers Nobile and husband Danny, all of Tupelo; her grandchildren,Tyler Young, of Arlington, Va., Summer Young, Natalie Nobile, andDanna Nobile, all of Tupelo; her brother, Bobby Brown and wifeMary, of Meridian; her sisters, Melba Covington, Helen Ranager, andJoyce Cook and husband Jack, all of Meridian; and numerous niecesand nephews.
