Lincoln County sports fans may have to pitch a little more moneythis year to net home game tickets.

The Lincoln County School Board considered a request by schoolprincipals to raise the prices on home game tickets for baseballand softball games from $3 to $4, but took no action Monday.

“The fees for officials have increased for all sports and on anygiven day we do not take in enough money to pay officials forbaseball and softball,” Bogue Chitto Attendance Center PrincipalBill McGehee wrote in a letter of request to the board.

Under the proposal, football admission prices would remain at$5, with basketball still set at $3.

Athletic admission prices were last updated in August 2000, withthe exception of football, said Lincoln County Superintendent TerryBrister. Football fans had to tackle an increase from $4 to $5 forhome games this year after the board hiked ticket prices in2006.

Brister, however, recommended the board modify the request.

“If we’re going to go up on any more of them, I suggest we raisethem all,” he said.

Board members discussed raising all ticket prices last yearwhile debating the football increase.

They decided to limit the raise because, unlike football, othersports host more than one game a week. At the time, board membersfelt an increase on ticket prices for other sports would have beenoverly burdensome because of the number of games per week.

However, most districts are rather uniform in their admissionfees at a straight $5, Brister said.

“We’ve been a bargain when they come here to play,” he said.

Steve Rushing, District Four board member, suggested that theadmission fees in other districts be verified before the boardmakes a decision. The topic was tabled until the information couldbe compiled.
