Watson pitches BA victory over Copiah Acad. Colonels

GALLMAN — Senior pitcher Zach Watson pitched a 5-hitter and theBrookhaven Academy Cougars beat Copiah Academy’s Colonels 6-1Tuesday in a District 6-AA baseball showdown. He struck out 9batters and walked 2.

The Cougars, coached by Stephen Cooksey, host Copiah Thursday,starting at 6:30.

Copiah’s Scott Reese absorbed the loss. He fanned 7 batters,walked none and hit 3.

At the plate, Brookhaven leadoff batter T-Boy Lynch homered inthe first inning. The senior centerfielder also singled.

First baseman Will Gatlin singled and doubled for the Cougars.Catcher Kolby Byrd doubled.

Reese had 2 hits for the Colonels who scored once in thefourth.

In the 3-run fourth, Byrd slapped an RBI double. Seth Cliburncollected a 2-RBI single.
