BA netters rule South State AA

Brookhaven Academy’s tennis team dominated the South State ClassAA Tournament Monday at the Brookhaven Country Club. They swept thesingles competition as Dudley Lampton and Will Hickman won No. 1and No. 2 boys respectively in straight sets.

Overall, the Cougars won 7 of 9 titles. Coached by Alan Taylor,the Cougars travel to the state tournament at Parham Bridges TennisCenter May 9, in Jackson.

In girls singles, Roseymary Moak took the No. 1 title instraight sets and Sydney Moak did the same in No. 2.

In No. 1 boys doubles, Austin Watts and Michael Wilson ofBrookhaven Academy cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 finals win over Alex Guessand Richard Henley of Copiah Academy.

In No. 2 boys doubles, Copiah’s Reece Hankins and Rob Pyrondefeated Brookhaven’s Jake Baker and Myles Melancon in split sets:6-1, 5-7, 6-4.

In No. 1 girls doubles, Brookhaven’s Nicole Smith and SarahTaylor took the title, beating Caroline Beach and Jessy Davis ofCopiah 6-2, 3-6, 7-6.

In No. 2 girls doubles, Brookhaven’s Emily Ryan and TerahWinborne beat Sarah Perry and Emilee Trisler of Riverfield (La.)6-2, 6-3 in the title match.

In mixed doubles, Laten Barham and Kirstern Heath of Riverfieldbeat Lurie Coward and Jesse Thompson of Adams County ChristianSchool 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in the finals.
