Services for George Llellyen Mathas, of Wesson, formerly ofMetairie, La., are 11 a.m. Monday, May 21, at Leitz-Eagan FuneralHome, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie, with intermentin Lakelawn Park Mausoleum. A Masonic service will be held at 10:30a.m.

Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home,and on Monday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Mr. Mathas passed away peacefully surrounded by family onThursday, May 17, 2007, at 8:11 a.m., at Mississippi BaptistMedical Center in Jackson. He was born in New Orleans, La., onMarch 21, 1933.

He was retired from South Central Bell Telephone Co. He was amember of the Masonic Lodge No. 417 Square and Compass for 46years. He served in the Korean Conflict as a United States MarineCorporal (Platoon Charlie), 1st Marine Division, and was honorablydischarged. He was a former member of Bridgedale BaptistChurch.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 29 years, Elsie QuarlesMathas; his infant son, George Llellyen Mathas Jr.; his grandson,Matthew Llellyen Heffner; his parents, George E. Mathas and WilleMay McCook; and his brother, Eugene H. Mathas.

Survivors are his wife, Verbalee Watts-Mathas, of Wesson; hisdaughters, Linda M. Loup, Brenda M. Heffner-McCaskell, Paula M.Nichelson; his stepdaughter, Sharon W. Robertson; his sons, GeorgeE. Mathas; his stepsons, Richie D. Watts and Michael Roy Watts; hisbrothers, Gary H. Mathas, Barry A. Mathas; his sisters, LolittaCompeaux and Loretta St. Pierre; and numerous grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren.
