Services for Mabel Britt Smith of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m.Wednesday, June 6, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Brookhaven withburial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home on NatchezDrive is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mrs. Smith, 87, died June 4, 2007, at her residence. She wasborn in the Mt. Zion community on Sept. 15, 1919, to Monroe Brittand Salena Smith Britt.
She was a homemaker. She attended New Sight School, as well asCopiah-Lincoln Community College. She was a devoted wife to OddeeSmith for 61 years. She was a dedicated member of Macedonia BaptistChurch, where she faithfully taught in the Primary Departmentduring Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and “Sunbeams,”presently known as Mission Friends. She especially enjoyed servingin WMU and in her Sunday School class. She also liked opening herhome for various meetings, such as “Sunbeams,” WMU and the localGarden and Homemakers Club.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; herbrother, Harlan Britt; and her sisters, Hazel Nettles and RebaBritt.
Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and ConnieSmith, J. Ronny and Carolyn Smith, and Joel O. and Cindy Smith, allof Brookhaven; her daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Gerald Hart,of Brookhaven; her brother, Cecil Monroe Britt, of Houston, Texas;her sisters, JoAnn Brown and Mildred Smith, both of Wesson; her 10grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and her dedicatedsitters, especially Lynda Campbell, who has served for sixyears.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia BaptistChurch Mission Fund.
