Dove award winner and Grammy-nominated DecembeRadio will presenta benefit concert Friday at 7 p.m. in Monticello Baptist Church’sFamily Life Center.

Proceeds from the benefit will help 2-year-old Mollie Spence,the daughter of David and Stephanie Spence of Jayess, receiveneeded medical treatments for cerebral palsy.

Boone Daughdrill, a New Hebron native and former resident ofBrookhaven, is the Christian rock band’s drummer. He is a highschool friend of the Spence family.

Julie Malone, another friend of the family and an event organizer,said money raised at the concert will help pay for hyperbaricoxygen treatments for Mollie Spence.

Spence will require a minimum of 40 treatments at a cost of $200each, she said.

“The hyperbaric treatments can help replenish her brain cells andimprove her life,” Malone said.

A young boy in the cerebral palsy family support group attended bythe Spence family recently returned from receiving similartreatments, Malone said, and the Spence family was excited aboutthe possibilities.

“He has had some improvement,” Malone said. “He can sit up and holdhis up on his own now. He was a little worse off than Mollie, so wehope she can show even more improvement.”

The treatments are expensive, however, and event organizers hopeDecembeRadio’s benefit concert can help offset those costs.

Based in Blacksburg, Va., DecembeRadio has been together since 1998and has been riding a recent wave of popularity. In addition toDaughdrill, band members include Josh Reedy, Brian Bunn and EricMiker.

The band recently won a Dove Award for rock album of the year bythe Gospel Music Association.

The band was nominated for three other awards besides rock album ofthe year. The categories included new artist of the year, song ofthe year for “Drifter,” and rock recorded song for “Dangerous.”

In its Grammy nod, the self-titled album was nominated in the BestRock Or Rap Gospel Album category.

Advance tickets are $10 and are available in Brookhaven atMississippi Marine and I.C. Thomasson Associates, Inc. and inMonticello at Monticello Baptist Church and the dentistry office ofDr. Chris Boyd. They will be on sale until Thursday. Tickets willonly be available at the door on Friday.
