Margaret Furr Lee, 99, died June 20, 2007, in Brookhaven.Visitation is 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, and 1 p.m.Friday, June 22, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on HighStreet in Jackson. Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeralhome with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park on ClintonBoulevard.

Margaret Elizabeth Furr was born on Nov. 15, 1907, in LincolnCounty near Wesson to William H. and Lena Dorsey Furr. Paternalgrandparents were William Pendleton and Elizabeth Farmer Furr, andmaternal grandparents were Tom and Ada Cole Dorsey. She was thefifth of eight children. She graduated with an Associate in Artsdegree in 1930 from Copiah-Lincoln Junior College (the college’sfirst graduating class) and State Teachers’ College (now theUniversity of Southern Mississippi) in Hattiesburg in 1932 with aBachelor of Science degree. Her majors were English and history.She later completed graduate studies at Tulane University andLouisiana State University.

Mrs. Lee was an outstanding educator, having taught 31 years,beginning in Ruth and Loyd Star, as a high school English teacher.It was during this time (1944) that she married Thomas Ferguson Leeand moved to Jackson. She ended her teaching career in 1973 as asixth grade teacher at Pearl Upper Elementary School. She was adedicated and beloved teacher, and many of her former studentscontinued to keep in touch with her through the years that followedher retirement.

A charter member of Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson,Margaret served for a number of years as a ladies Sunday Schoolteacher. In 1998 Thomas and she moved to Riggs Manor RetirementCommunity in Raymond where they became members of First BaptistChurch of Raymond. In 2005 she moved to Wesson to be near herdaughter and her family and became a member of the Wesson BaptistChurch.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice Lee Puckett; son-in-law,Dr. Terry J. Puckett; grandson, Corey Lee Puckett, all of Wesson;grandson Dr. Mark Puckett (Julie) of Florence, Ala.; granddaughterTanya Puckett Sturtz (Jerry), of Zanesville, Ohio; sisters-in-law,Katie Furr, of Wesson, and Florence Lee, of Madison; fivegreat-grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded indeath by sisters, Will Lena Furr Wright and Lynelle Furr Bates;brothers, Wilmer Furr, Ray A. Furr, Carl R. Furr, W. Hubert Furrand Lester R. Furr; and granddaughter Lara Puckett.

Mrs. Lee will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor,love of laughter, love for her family and friends, her deep andabiding faith in Christ Jesus and love for His Church.
