Bank of Brookhaven takes DYB Major Tournament

Bank of Brookhaven captured the Lincoln County Youth SportsDixie Youth Major League Baseball Championship Friday night with a12-5 win over Big League Mobile Homes. Bank of Brookhaven finished6-0 in the tournament at Keystone Park.

Tyler Roberts was the winning pitcher with 13 strikeouts and nowalks to his credit.

“I have a great group of young boys and I enjoy coaching them,”said Bank of Brookhaven coach Jason Case. “I also had great helpfrom my assistants, Charles Phillipp and Kevin Byrd. I want tothank the parents for their support and allowing me to coach theirsons.”

Heath Hickman fanned 2 and walked 1 in the loss. Starting wasGraham Watson who had 5 strikeouts and 6 walks.

“We had a good season and won the National (title) this season,”said Big League coach Kevin Smith. “We were flat tonight. But I’mproud of the kids.”

Bank of Brookhaven took a 6-1 lead over Big League in the firstinning. The bankers pushed their lead to 7-1 in the third. BigLeague cut the deficit to 6-4 in the top of the fourth.

The bankers added 5 more runs in the bottom of the fourth for a12-4 lead. Big League added 1 run in the top of the sixth, cuttingthe deficit to 12-5.

Powering Bank of Brookhaven with a double and a single apiecewere Jared Case and Ben Mathis. Ripping a pair of singles was JoeyWilliams. Branden Canny doubled. Singling were Tyler Roberts, DrewPhilipp, Myles Tipton and Michael Lambert.

Big League got a double and a single apiece from Dylan Smith andHickman. Logan Smith, Landon Nelson, Lane Smith and Cody McCulloughsingled.
