1 killed, 2 hurt in holiday mishap

A Bogue Chitto woman was killed and two people were injured in alate-afternoon crash on Interstate 55 southbound Wednesday,authorities said.
Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said Grace Lyons, 78, diedon the scene of the single-car accident, which occurred at milemarker 39 around 5:40 p.m.
Lyons was riding in the back seat of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee,which was driven by her daughter, 34-year-old Doris Lyons, also ofBogue Chitto.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Sgt. RustyBoyd said the other two passengers were 43-year-old MichaelJohnson, of Bogue Chitto, and 6-year-old D’Shay Harris, of CrystalSprings.
“All three were transported to KDMC, though Johnson wasn’tshowing signs of immediate injury,” said Boyd. “There were moderateinjuries on Harris and Doris Lyons.”
KDMC spokeswoman JoAnna Sproles said Harris and Doris Lyons wereboth treated and released.
Boyd said the accident occurred when the vehicle ran off theleft shoulder of the road and struck a sign post with the left rearof the vehicle, where Grace Lyons was sitting. The vehicle came torest in the median.
McMorris said Williams Mortuary will be handling the servicesfor Grace Lyons. Arrangements are incomplete.
