Wesson, Lincoln Co. Americans notch wins in DYB 11s tourney

WESSON — After nearly five days of rainouts and delays, Day 1of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 6 11-year-old tournamentfinally concluded Tuesday night. The Lincoln County Americansdefeated the Natchez All-Stars 15-5, and the Lincoln CountyNationals fell to the Wesson All-Stars 8-1 at Hiram NewmanField.

In a game that concluded from last Thursday, the McCombAll-Stars shut out the Franklin County All-Stars 18-0 in 4innings.

In tonight’s losers bracket game, Franklin County takes onNatchez at 6 p.m., followed at 8 by a winners bracket game pittingthe Americans and McComb.

Americans 15, Natchez 5

Natchez opened the scoring in the top of the first on a solohome run by Tyler Buckles and an early 1-0 lead.

The Americans would respond in a big way with 12 runs in thefirst 2 innings. Reed Jones and Brady Wilson scored 2 runs eachduring the scoring span.

Natchez plated 1 run in the third and 2 in the fourth, but stilltrailed 12-5.

The Americans evoked the 10-run rule in the fifth. Zac Smithsingled. Newt Riley walked. Keith Wells walked to load the bases.Jacob Thurman’s RBI single scored Smith. Cody Thornhill walked;scoring Riley. Wells scored the game-winner on a wild pitch.

Collecting hits for the Americans were Jones (2), Landon Nix,Smith (2) and Thornhill. Wilson and Andrew Culver each had adouble.

Natchez, coached by Bruce Ross, got a homer from Garrett Rehms.Dylan Galbreath and Brandon Ross reached base safely.

Will McDowell authored the win for the Americans. In 3 innings,he allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits; walking 2 and striking out2. Riley and Smith saw action on the mound.

The Americans are coached by Jason Wilson, Stan Foster and JuanSmith.

Tanner Jannette suffered the loss for Natchez. He allowed 6earned runs on 4 hits; issuing 4 base on balls and fanning 2American batters. Ross and Hunter Lindsey made a reliefappearance.

Wesson 8, Nationals 1

Wesson’s Bailey Warren picked up the complete game win (6innings). He allowed an unearned run on 3 hits; allowing a walkplus 10 strikeouts. Warren also helped his cause at the plate, with3-run homer and a double; scoring twice.

Heath Hickman suffered the loss for the Nationals in 3 innings.He allowed 6 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, with 1walk and nostrikeouts. Landon Nelson and Dylan Watts came on in relief.

Collecting singles for the Nationals were Austin Fuller andHunter Foster. Nelson doubled. Landon McCullough scored.

The Nationals are under the direction of Tommy Fuller, CharlesPhillip and Andrew Hickman.

Lending support for Wesson was Ethan Harris with a pair ofsingles and 2 runs scored. Landon Nettles singled. Other runs werescored by Nettles, Les Parker and Kaleb Skinner (2).
