Academies being preseason drills Wed.

Brookhaven Academy, Copiah Academy and McComb Parklane Academykick off preseason football practice Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Coach Bo Milton comes into his second year as head coach withthe Brookhaven Academy Cougars. He led the Cougars to the District6-AA championship last season and a berth in the stateplayoffs.

Copiah Academy, under the direction of new head coach ScottyCline, is the defending AA state football champ. Cline replacedformer head coach Mitch Mitchell.

Parklane is under the direction of veteran head coach CharlieNewlon.

Brookhaven Academy

The Cougars will receive their equipment tonight at 6 p.m.Brookhaven kicks off its season on Friday, Aug. 24, at Centreville.The Cougars will participate in jamboree Aug. 16, at Tri-County inFlora.

Players report Wednesday 7 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. for asecond practice. Thirty-three athletes are in the summerweightlifting program.

Copiah Academy

The Gallman-based Colonels (10-4) are the MPSA Class AAdefending state champs. They were runners-up to Brookhaven Academyin the District 6-AA race.

Cline’s Colonels begin 2-a-day workouts Wednesday. Copiah hostsBowling Green in its season opener.

Parklane Academy

Coach Newlon said he expects 40 players on this year’s roster.His Pioneers begin Wednesday practice at 8 a.m. and resume thatafternoon.

Parklane (7-3) hosts a jamboree Aug. 17. The Pioneers kick offtheir season Aug. 24 with Oak Forest.
