Sam Gayten

Services for Sam Gayten, of Brookhaven, are 3 p.m. Saturday,Aug. 4, at Rosehill Missionary Baptist Church in Brookhaven withburial in Rosehill Church Cemetery in Brookhaven. Williams Mortuaryis in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home,with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m.

Mr. Gayten, 73, died July 31, 2007, at his residence. He wasborn on April 13, 1934, to Willie Gayten Sr. and Arzula Gayten.

He was retired after 30 years of service with the City ofBrookhaven Streets and Sanitation Department. He was a member ofRosehill M.B. Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Elvira”Vi” Gayten; his brothers, Jack Gayten, Augusta Gayten, WillieGayten Jr., Joe Gayten and Henry Gayten; and stepdaughter, GloriaJean Henderson.

Survivors are his sons, Leartice Smith, of Brookhaven, IsiahSmith, of Anniston, Ala., Sam Gayten Jr., of Richmond, Va., AnthonyGayten, Danny Gayten, Willie Gayten, Johnny Gayten, Sidney Gayten,Samuel Gayten and Willie Henderson, all of Brookhaven; hisdaughters, Harriet Henry, Saundra Lloyd and Ella Mae Holmes, all ofBrookhaven, Elmira Gayten, of Richmond, and Martion Henderson, ofBrookhaven; his sister, Annie Marie Chapman, of Hattiesburg; hisbrothers, Robert Earl Gayten, of Brookhaven, and Harold Coleman, ofBen Harbor, Mich.; his 31 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren andtwo great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, otherrelatives and friends.

Jack Magee

Services for Jack Magee, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Saturday,Aug. 4, at Della Green Missionary Baptist Church in Brookhaven withburial in Rosehill Church Cemetery in Brookhaven. Williams Mortuaryis in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 1 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home,with family hour from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m.

Mr. Magee, 76, died July 27, 2007, at Southwest MississippiRegional Medical Center in McComb. He was born in Lincoln County onOct. 5, 1930, to Lize Magee and Lillie Magee.

He was retired. He was a member of Della Green M.B. Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, ClarkMagee, Arthur Magee, R.T. Magee and Willie B. Harrison; and hissisters, Estella Barnes, Flossie B. McGhee, Annie Campbell, ClaraScamps and Ernestine Thompson.

Survivors are his devoted companion, Wessie Powell, ofBrookhaven; his daughter, Tina Newman, of Brookhaven; his sons,Tyree Powell, of New Llano, La., Jackie Powell, of Killeen, Texas,and John Porter, of Monticello; his stepson, Jimmy Brown, ofBrookhaven; his stepdaughters, Helen Franklin and Darlene Thrasher,both of Brookhaven, and Jessie Mae Gant, of Houston, Texas; hisgodson, Edgar Green, of Brookhaven; his brothers, the Rev. CharlesMagee and the Rev. Tyree Harrison, both of Brookhaven; his eightgrandchildren, 15 stepgrandchildren; and 12great-stepgrandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relativesand friends.
