Bogue Chitto rallies to beat Wesson’s girls

WESSON — The Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats collected 12 hits en routeto an 8-3 comeback win over the Wesson Lady Cobras in slowpitchsoftball action Monday night at Cobra Field.

Wesson travels to South Pike Thursday for a JV/Varsitydoubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. Bogue Chitto hosts North PikeThursday at 5 and 6.

The Lady ‘Cats (3-0) took an early 1-0 lead in the top of thefirst. With 2 outs, centerfielder Shaquille Burton reached on afielder’s choice. Rightfielder Caitlin Owen tripled to scoreBurton.

The Lady Cobras (2-1) responded in the first with 3 runs.Leadoff batter Christina Fink walked. Leftfielder Ann Shelby Davisdoubled. First baseman Jessica Haynes’ single scored Fink. PitcherNiki McCardle’s sacrifice fly to right center field plated Davis.Catcher Leah Greer’s ground out to second scored Haynes for a 3-1Wesson cushion.

Bogue Chitto, coached by Scott Leggett, reclaimed the advantageat 4-3 in the third. Second baseman Bradi Davis walked. Two batterslater, Kelli Howard reached on a fielder’s choice. Burton’s singlescored Davis.

A fielding error by the Lady Cobras would score Howard. CaitlinOwen’s groundout to second scored Burton.

“We hit the ball early and late,” Coach Leggett said. “We kindof shut down in the middle innings.”

Leggett’s ‘Cats would score a pair of runs in the sixth andseventh innings, after going scoreless in the fourth and fifth.

“Our defense made some plays,” said Coach Leggett. “We scoredruns when we needed.”

Despite the loss, Wesson head coach Hugh Webb saw somepositives.

“We played hard tonight,” Coach Webb commented following thegame. “I was pleased with our effort. We are getting better.

“Bogue Chitto played well,” Webb added. “They have a goodballclub.”

Collecting base hits for the Lady Cobras were Fink, Haynes,Greer, Dallas Jackson and Laney McQuage. Davis doubled.

Burton led Bogue Chitto with a single, a triple, 3 runs scoredand 2 RBIs. Howard followed with 2 singles and 2 runs scored.Jessie Miller singled twice.

Bogue Chitto’s Blaine Myers (3-0) garnered the win. McCardle(2-1) took the loss for the Lady Cobras.
