Woman dies after accident

A Wesson woman died at University Medical Center in JacksonWednesday of injuries she sustained in an afternoon head-oncollision on Beauregard Road. Two others were hospitalizedfollowing the accident.

Donna Loper, 56, of Wesson, died shortly after being airliftedto UMC from Hardy-Wilson, said Copiah County Chief Deputy TonyHemphill. Her daughter Nikki, 29, and 6-year-old granddaughter werein the vehicle with her at the time of the collision.

Officials said around 1 p.m. Wednesday Kevin Wilson, of Wesson,was traveling on Beauregard Road when his Hyundai and Loper’s HondaSonata collided head-on in front of the Beauregard Cemetary.

Wilson and Nikki Loper were also transported to Hardy-Wilson byambulance, and their conditions were unavailable. The granddaughterdid not require medical attention.

Hemphill said the accident is still being examined for howexactly what took place. Officials on the scene said Wilson, 43,had told them his steering had gone out.

“We have people reconstructing the accident on the scene. Atthis point it’s still under investigation,” Hemphill said.

The Jaws of Life were used to pop the doors on both vehicles,officials said. The Wesson Volunteer Fire Department was on thescene for extrication.

Funeral arrangements for Donna Loper have not yet been made.
