Reba Pevey

Reba Pevey, 81, died Aug. 11, 2007, at Rankin Medical Centerunder care of Hospice Ministries. Visitation will be Monday from 6until 8 p.m. at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs.Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stringer Family Chapel inCrystal Springs with burial in the Old Crystal SpringsCemetery.

Mrs. Pevey was born Oct. 26, 1925, to loving parents L.L. (Luke)and Beulah Lofton in the Arlington Community in Southwest LincolnCounty.

She graduated from Arlington High School in 1943 before workingfor a short period as a telephone operator in Hattiesburg duringWorld War II. She then attended Draughns Business School in Jacksonand subsequently worked as a bookkeeper for Mississippi Power andLight Co. in Brookhaven until her marriage to Will (Billy) Pevey ofCrystal Springs in 1949.

During their marriage and rearing of their children, Reba andWill lived in several locations: Magee, Tampa, Fla., Jackson,Greenwood, Augusta, Ga., Charlotte, N.C., and Morton. In everylocation they were active members of a Southern Baptist Church.

Reba loved working (and playing) with children and the youth inchurch, school and community activities.

Reba was the fifth child in the L.L. Lofton family. She had fivebrothers and three sisters. Of these, she is survived by her twoyounger sisters, Joyce Smith of Brookhaven, and Dot Smith of BogueChitto.

She is also survived by her husband of 57 years, Will (Billy)Pevey of Crystal Springs; daughter, Linda Scafidel and husbandRusty of Jackson; son, Bruce Pevey and wife Helen of McComb;grandchildren, David Pevey and wife Marge of Crystal Springs, LaihaPevey of McComb, Christy Scafidel Emerson and husband Nathaniel ofFlorence and Bonnie Scafidel of Jackson; great-grandchildren, LaunaEmerson of Florence, and Samuel Pevey of Crystal Springs.

In lieu of flowers, Reba would be pleased if you made a donationto your favorite charity or to one of hers, Batson’s Children’sHospital, Baptist Children’s Village, or to St. Jude Children’sResearch Hospital.
