Lady Panthers smoke BC

BOGUE CHITTO — When the smoke cleared, Bogue Chitto’s Lady’Cats committed three errors and Brookhaven’s Lady Panthers ralliedfor a 4-2 Monday night win in slowpitch softball action. Ole Brookscored all four of its runs in the fourth frame.
A forest fire in the area caused smoke to cover the field onseveral occasions.
“We had a chance to shut them (Brookhaven) down in the fourthwithout giving up a run but those three errors allowed them toscore,” said Bogue Chitto coach Scott Leggett. “The biggest playcould happen at any moment and we have got to take advantage ofit.,”
Winning pitcher Casey Rischer walked 1 batter and fanned none.Losing hurler Blaine Myers didn’t issue a walk or a strikeout.
At the plate, Ole Brook was led by shortstop Terri Hodges whodoubled and singled. Georgia Rae Rainer and Sabrina Delaughter bothsingled twice. Hannah Lowman, Katie Stewart, Stevie Wright, KelseyFreeman and Rischer singled.
“It was a hard-fought win,” said BHS coach Lisa Covington. “Wehave to do a better job scoring our runners.”
The ‘Cats took a 1-0 lead in the second on a sacrifice fly byMyers, scoring Jessie Miller. Two singles by Kelli Howard directedBC’s attack. Mikki Mitchell, Jessie Miller, Caitlin Owen and JosiePorter singled.
The Panthers left the bases loaded in the top of the fifth andsixth innings.
Junior Varsity Action
In the JV game, Bogue Chitto posted a 5-1 victory. Singles byShelby Crosby, Rheagan Welch, Toy Smith, Chris May, Haley Estessand Adrienne Wallace paced the winning offense.
Toy Smith (3 Ks, 2 BBs) pitched the win. Brook Hosick (0 Ks, 1BB) absorbed the loss.
Brook got a double from Karlee Martin and 2 singles from EmilyFreeman. Christen Beeson, Brittany Bateman and Hosick singled.
Brook (4-2) plays its first Division 6-4A game today, hostingPort Gibson. The JV game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsityat 6.
Bogue Chitto (5-2) plays at Enterprise Thursday for a Division7-1A test.
