Wesson girls post key win over McLaurin

WESSON — Amanda Price and Dallas Jackson ripped 3 hits apieceThursday night to power the Wesson Lady Cobra slowpitch softballteam to a 12-2 division win over the McLaurin Lady Tigers.
The Cobras, coached by Hugh Webb, improved to 6-5 with thewin.
“We played really well,” said Webb. “We hit it well. I waspleased with our defense.”
McLaurin led 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Wesson cameback with 1 run in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to2-1.
In the third inning, the Cobras exploded for seven runs thenadded 1 in the fifth and 3 in the seventh for the 10 runvictory.
The winning pitcher was Nikki McCardle with 2 strikeouts and 1walk. Absorbing the loss was Tiffany Brown with no strikeouts and 2walks.
Contributing to the Wesson win with 2 hits each were ChristinaFink and McCardle. Summer Rials, Ann Shelby Davis, Madison Rials,Leah Greer, Ceara Sturgis and Macie McQuage.
Junior varsity action
Wesson knocked off McLaurin 7-5 in JV action.
Laney McQuage (4-2) was the winning pitcher. Maddie Rials ledWesson with 2 hits.
Wesson plays Saturday in the Bogue Chitto tournament. The Cobrasbegin play at 9 a.m. against Cathedral.
