Man hurt in tree stand fall

A Brookhaven man was the hunting season’s first Lincoln Countyinjury Thursday after he slipped out of the tree stand he wasworking on at the time.

Mississippi Wildlife Fisheries and Parks Department DistrictFive Capt. Jamie Cummins said Richard Daniel Smith, of Brookhaven,was attaching steps to a tree when he slipped and fellapproximately 20 feet to the ground around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

“There are steps you screw into the tree that you step on toclimb up, and he was standing on them,” he said. “It started torain and he fell. He hurt his lower back and the heel of hisfoot.”

Cummins confirmed that Smith was taken to Kings Daughters’Medical Center for his injuries.
