The Rev. John R. Sartin Jr.
The Reverend John R. Sartin, Jr. of Conroe, Texas, passed awayon September 16, 2007. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m.,Thursday, September 20, 2007, at the Brookhaven Funeral Home, NorthJackson Street, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. A graveside servicewill be held Friday, September 21 at 11 a.m. at Easthaven Cemeteryin Brookhaven. The Rev. Sartin was the son of the late John SartinSr. and Jessie Boone Sartin of Brookhaven. He was born October 29,1919, in Gloster, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by the loveof his life, the late Nellie Reed Sartin, who died June 17,1975.
The Reverend Sartin was a native of Brookhaven, Mississippi, whoserved in the United States Army 1940-1945. In 1953, he was calledinto the ministry; one of the highlights of his ministry was theprivilege of beginning a mission that grew into Highland BaptistChurch of Crystal Springs, Mississippi. The Rev. Sartin graduatedwith a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree inHistory from Mississippi College. He also attended New OrleansBaptist Theological Seminary and the University of SouthernMississippi studying the Bible, Expository Preaching, PastoralCounseling, Missions and Educational Sociology. He is survived byhis three sons, Robert Denman Sartin of Corpus Christi, Texas, JohnLandon Sartin and his wife Anna Sartin of Rock Hill, South Carolinaand Baron Reed Sartin and his wife Diana Sartin of Conroe, Texas;seven grandchildren, Robert Sartin and wife Dana of Lexington, Ky.,Reed Sartin of Austin, Texas, Marianna Sartin of Charlotte, N.C.,Kathryn Sartin of Columbia, S.C., Jessie Sartin of College Station,Texas, Jill Sartin and Jackson Sartin of Conroe, Texas; two greatgrandchildren, Madison and Abigail Sartin of Lexington, Ky.; andone sister, Mrs. Virgie Watts of Houston, Texas.
Up until the very end, he was professing his faith andwitnessing about the grace of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
