Wolfpack hunting victory over Pearl River Wildcats

WESSON — In a Thursday night game of South Divisionsignificance, the Co-Lin Wolfpack visits the Pearl River CommunityCollege Wildcats. Kickoff is 7 p.m. in Poplarville.
Co-Lin (1-2, 1-0) is fresh from a 21-0 shutout win overarchrival Southwest. Pearl River (2-1, 1-0), the 4-time defendingstate champion, is regrouping after a 24-17 loss to MississippiGulf Coast.
Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis said Gulf Coast’s victory lastweek didn’t surprise him. “I don’t know how much of an upset itwas. Gulf Coast is pretty good. They probably should have beatenthem last year.”
Last year was a different story. Co-Lin ambushed the top-rankedWildcats 31-21 at Wesson during the regular season. In the statechampionship game, PRCC pulled out a narrow 21-20 win over theWolves in Stone Stadium.
After PRCC’s loss to Gulf Coast last week, Wildcats head coachTim Hatten indicated there would be a change at quarterback. Heplans to go with freshman Pat Oliver of East Marion. He is theyounger brother of JImmy Oliver who led the Wildcats to thenational championship in 2004 and is now playing for JacksonState.
