Panthers entertain McComb

It’s the Region 6-4A opener for the Brookhaven Panthers and theMcComb Tigers. Rekindling of the ancient rivalry kicks off at 7p.m. Friday night on King Field and a large crowd is expected.

The McComb Tigers, coached by Randy Martin, are 2-1 on theseason after beating Madison Central 35-28 last Friday at McComb.Ole Brook is 2-1 after losing 35-18 at Clinton.

BHS head coach Tucker Peavey is familiar with the Tigers. Hewatched them play Wayne County and Laurel in the BHS jamboree Aug.23, on King Field. He and his staff have watched the Tigers onfilm, too.

“McComb is a big, fast team,” said Peavey. “They have biglinemen on offense and they have several exceptional skill players.The Tigers beat Madison Central last Friday as they rebounded froma loss at Franklin County.

Alonzo Harris, McComb’s 3-year starter at quarterback, graduatedand signed a Major League Baseball contract with the New York Metsthis past summer. The Tigers now rely on Anthony Daniels (6-1, 180,sr.) to call signals. Daniels has completed 14 of 32 passes for 256yards and 4 touchdowns in 3 games.
