Services for Charles H. Monroe Sr., of McCall Creek, were 10a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel with burialin Williamstown, N.Y.

Mr. Monroe, 92, died Sept. 22, 2007, at Southwest MississippiRegional Medical Center in McComb. He was born in Utica, N.Y. onJuly 8, 1915, to John Giles Monroe and Clara Helfert Monroe.

He was a graduate of Cornell University. He was a retiredbacteriologist and biochemist with the Federal Food and DrugAdministration. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church inMeadville and an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club, andthe American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, FlorenceMurray Monroe; his brother, John Walter Monroe; and his sister,Lillian T. Casey.

Survivors are his sons, Charles H. Monroe Jr. and wife KatrinaMartin, of Boston, Mass., and John William Monroe and wifeMargaret, of Palo Alto, Calif.; his daughter, Alice Methvien, ofMcCall Creek; and his grandchildren, John W. Monroe and wife Wendi,of Iowa City, Iowa, April B. Monroe, of Cambridge, Mass., Yancy W.Methvien, of McCall Creek, Charles Monroe, of London, England, andZachary Monroe, of Jamaica Plains, Mass.
