Panthers invade Mendenhall

Hoping to keep their momentum on the upswing, Brookhaven’sPanthers invade Mendenhall Friday night to meet the Tigers in aRegion 6-4A contest. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Both teams are coming off big victories. The Panthers (3-1, 1-0)won their first region test with a 35-21 comeback win over theMcComb Tigers. Mendenhall (1-3, 1-0) beat Forest HIll 31-15 on theroad for its first victory of the season.

Coach Chris Peterson’s Tigers lost two offensive leaders tograduation in quarterback James Walker and running back BertrailEasterling. Both standouts signed scholarships with Copiah-LincolnCommunity College.

According to Ole Brook head coach Tucker Peavey, Mendenhall hasmade some major changes on offense. “They have opened up the fieldwith a shotgun formation and the spread.”

Peavey said quarterback Montrell Edwards (5-7, 155, jr.) runsthe offensive attack as a passer and a runner. In the win overForest Hill, Edwards ran for 1 touchdown and Justin Gholar (5-10,185, jr.) ran 5 yards for another.
