Participant cites Drug Court role in turnaround

Drug addiction, like any disease, does not discriminate. Itaffects young, old, rich, poor, people of all races and bothgenders.

Christy Huett, 26, of Columbia, was one such example.

She was arrested in January of 2006 in possession of drugs, andwas battling a consuming crack addiction. She was sent to rehab,and then put in Drug Court, a program to steer recovering addictsto a full recovery.

Before the program, she said she spent most of her time thinkingabout where her next high would come from.

“I just withdrew from the world, and I didn’t want to be aroundanything or anyone,” she said. “I’d get my dope and go to thecloset so I could enjoy my high. Ninety percent of my time I spentin my closet.”
