Despite his death in an automobile accident in June, Ruthvolunteer firefighter Shannon Lawrence will still be able torespond to calls – thanks to a new fire truck that bears hisname.

Ruth firefighters and Lincoln County officials welcomed the new1,000 gallon pumper to the department Monday. A plaque dedicatingthe truck to Lawrence was placed over its valve connections.

“He’d love it,” said Lawrence’s widow Nicole about the newtruck. “He’d be pressing every button.”

Ruth Fire Chief Theresa Lawrence, his mother, said Shannon wouldhave been there to welcome it.

“He was excited about getting one,” she said. “He was lookingforward to today.”
