Wesson girls win division

RIDGELAND — The Wesson Lady Cobra slowpitch softball teamcaptured the Division 7-2A championship Tuesday night, beating theSt. Andrew’s Lady Saints 4-3.

Wesson improved to 16-10 overall and went undefeated in thedivision with a 7-0 worksheet. St. Andrew’s fell to 14-14 on theseason.

The Cobras host a best-of-3 series in the opening round of thestate playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 9. They will face the runner-up outof the Division 8. The first game begins at 4 p.m.

“We had a good defensive effort,” said Wesson head coach HughWebb. Last year, Wesson did not win a single division game.

According to Webb, several girls contributed on key playsdefensively. Jessica Hayes helped turn a double play in the seventhinning. Christina Fink, Summer Rials and Macie McQuade also turneda double play.
