Panthers visit Lawrence Co.

Lawrence County, fresh from a major victory over the McCombTigers, goes after bigger game Friday night, That’s when theunbeaten Cougars (5-0, 2-0) host the Brookhaven Panthers (4-1, 2-0)for a Region 6-4A showdown. Kickoff is 7 p.m. and an overflow crowdis expected in Monticello.

LCHS head coach Mike Davis said his team couldn’t celebratetheir 14-0 shutout of McComb for an extended period. “We haveanother big one. The rest of us are just trying to get whereBrookhaven and McComb are. It’s uphill.”

Davis said he was impressed by Brookhaven’s performance ondefense against McComb, especially in the second half of the 35-21victory two weeks ago. “I noticed in the McComb film, how welltheir defense played. They just kind of suffocated (McComb).”

Davis said the Panthers can score quickly by rushing or passingthe football. They do a good job with that spread zone offense.
