Vivian McCardle Davis

Services for Vivian McCardle Davis, of Hazlehurst, were 11 a.m.Thursday, Oct. 4, at Sardis Baptist Church with burial in SardisCemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Services was in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Davis, 97, died Sept. 29, 2007, at Hardy Wilson Hospital inHazlehurst.

She was a retired teacher who had a master’s degree and taughtaccelerated fourth grade. She was voted Teacher of the Year in 1968and won numerous other awards in the teaching field. She was amember of Sardis Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were three sisters; and a brother, J. F.McCardle, who died Sept. 30, 2007.

Survivors are her daughters, Vivian Mitchel, of Bishop, Calif..,and Sue Carol Behrend, of Oahu, Hi.; her brother, O. C. McCardle,of Hazlehurst; her grandchildren, William, Linday, Rudy, andRodney; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces andnephews.

Rhonda Walker Graham

Services for Rhonda Walker Graham, of Brookhaven, are 10 a.m.Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Stringer Family Funeral Services Chapel inHazlehurst with burial in the Bethel Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Graham, 48, died Oct. 6, 2007, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter.

Preceding her in death were her brother, Bobby Joe Walker; andher sister, Linda Jean Burns.

Survivors are her sister, Phoebe Young, of Wesson; and numerousnieces and nephews.

J. F. McCardle

Services for J. F. McCardle, of Hazlehurst, were 11 a.m.Thursday, Oct. 4, at Sardis Baptist Church with burial in SardisCemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Services was in charge ofarrangements.

Mr. McCardle, 79, died Sept. 30, 2007 at St. Dominic MemorialHospital.

He was a retired dairy farmer and a lifelong resident of CopiahCounty. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Patsy Nell McCardle, andfour sisters, including Vivian McCardle Davis, who died on Sept.29, 2007.

Survivors are his son, Jay McCardle, of Hazlehurst; hisdaughter, Trina Smith, of Brookhaven; his brother, O. C. McCardleJr., of Hazlehurst; and his grandchildren, Michele, Hunter, Jenny,Hailey, Samantha, Marley, and Jace.

Gertrude F. Thornhill

Services for Gertrude F. Thornhill, of McComb, are 2 p.m.Monday, Oct. 8, at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb with burial inHollywood Cemetery. The Rev. Greg Warnock will officiate.

Visitation is Monday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Thornhill, 92, died Oct. 5, 2007, at Camellia Estates inMcComb. She was born on April 10, 1915, to Jim and MarthaForbes.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church ofMcComb. She enjoyed crocheting and made many special items for herfamily to treasure.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, ClaytonThornhill; her brothers, Vardaman Forbes, Forrest Forbes, ListonForbes, Jake Forbes, and Douglas Forbes; and her sisters, Lura BellDunnaway and Chrystel Gates.

Survivors are her brother, Arthur Forbes; her sons, MaxThornhill and wife, Bonnie, of Brookhaven, and Jerry and wife,Shirley, of Colorado; her grandchildren, Debbie Acker, DanaSimmons, Diane Irby, Jere Ann Hammer, Tim Thornhill, and MikeThornhill; 21 great-grandchildren; and threegreat-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Simmons, Joe Irby, Aaron Acker, TimThornhill, Mike Thornhill, and Larry Hammer.

Patricia Ann Franklin Washington

Services for Patricia Ann Franklin Washington, of New Orleans,La., formerly of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at RoseHill M.B. Church with burial in the church cemetery. WilliamsMortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Monday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. Washington, 60, died Oct. 3, 2007, at her residence. Shewas born on April 21, 1947, to Luther Franklin Sr. and Ora LeeFranklin.

She was a 1966 graduate of Eva H. Harris school, a homemaker anda member of Rose Hill M.B. Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, LionelWashington; and her brothers, Luther Franklin Jr., Charles Franklinand Tommie Franklin.

Survivors include her sisters, Ada Rutledge, of Brookhaven,Maxine Banks, of New Orleans, Margie Gurley, of Houston, Texas, andMary Knox, of Brookhaven; and her brother, William “Larry”Franklin, of Brookhaven.

The family sends its thanks to Divine Care Hospice and HospiceMinistries, of Brookhaven.

Rowland Watts

Services for Rowland Watts, of Zachary, La., are 10 a.m. Monday,Oct. 8, at Charlet Funeral Home with burial in Azalea RestCemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. and Monday from 8:30a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Watts, 73, died Oct. 5, 2007, at his residence of naturalcauses. He was a native of Brookhaven.

He enjoyed playing his guitar and fishing. He was an avid sportsfan. His most treasured time was the time he spent with hisfamily.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Zollie and Anna Watts;his sister, Maxine Mitchell; and his brother, Russell Watts.

Survivors are his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Smith Watts, ofZachary; his daughters, Regina Watts Miller and husband Eric, TessyWatts Unglesby and husband Tommy, Marsha Watts Simoneaux andhusband Danny, and Michelle Robinson, all of Zachary; his son,Mitch Watts and wife Ann, of Baton Rouge, La.; his siblings, PattyBryant, of Blacksburg, Va., Raymond Watts, Ronnie Joe Watts, andRobert Earl Watts, all of Brookhaven, and Annie Ruth Welter, ofWesson; his grandchildren, Brandi Miller, Mindy Miller Head andhusband Jason, Jacob Miller, Leagh Ann Unglesby Carlton and husbandTommy, Trey Unglesby and wife Rachel, Matt Unglesby, Adria Delaune,Blane McEvers, Calli Simoneaux, Casey Simoneaux, Chandler Robinson,and Addie Robinson; and his great-grandchildren, Keely Head, BrodieHead, and Slade Chauser.

His grandsons will serve as his pallbearers.
