Recreational lake a success story for Southwest Miss.

After years of work, the final phase of the dream of having arecreational lake in Franklin County will become a reality on Nov.7 with Lake Okhissa’s scheduled opening.
The project has been more than 50 years in the making, withsupporters on all levels – local, state and federal – working tobring about the lake. All are to be congratulated for theirtireless efforts on behalf of the project.
The 1,075-acre lake, with opportunities for fishing, boating andother outdoor activities, has the potential to be a major economicboom for Southwest Mississippi.
As a Bill Dance Signature lake, it will have name recognitionamong the fishing crowd. Other planned attractions hopefully willfurther increase the lake’s profile and draw even more people tothe area.
Efforts to bring about Lake Okhissa are not just a success storyfor Franklin County, but for all of Southwest Mississippi. And now,as Lake Okhissa prepares to open, Franklin County and the rest ofSouthwest Mississippi are about to write an exciting new chapter inthe history long-sought project.
