Lady Bears sweep

Playing well on offense and defense, the West Lincoln Lady Bearswhipped Pelahatchie’s Lady Chiefs in the opening round of the Class1A state slowpitch softball playoffs. The Lady Bears won Tuesday’sopener 13-8 and took the nightcap 11-2.
West Lincoln (16-12) travels to East Webster Saturday for thesecond round of the playoffs. It will be a best-of-threeseries.
“It was good to get two more wins and advance to the nextround,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “We started off slowand Pelahatchie made some good plays. We could never get our rhythmgoing in the first game but we scored enough to win.
“In the second game we managed to get our bats going in thefourth inning. Our defense did a lot better in the second game. Weare still nursing some injuries and that slowed us down a littlebit.”
Shelby Lofton was the winning pitcher in both games.Pelahatchie’s Kristen Keen was the losing hurler.
