Lady Cobras bite St. Pat

WESSON — The Wesson Lady Cobras swept the St. Patrick LadyIrish Tuesday afternoon in the opening round of the Class 2A stateslowpitch softball playoffs. Wesson won the first game 6-2 and thefinale 10-0. This was the first year for St. Patrick (formerlyMercy Cross and St. John). The Lady Irish (8-9) are coached byLoretta Byrd.

The Cobras (18-9) travel to Enterprise-Clarke (22-9) Saturdayfor the second round. The first game in the best-of-three seriesstarts at 5 p.m.

Enterprise-Clarke eliminated Union 11-3 and 12-2 Tuesday.

“We played good defensive ball,” said Wesson head coach HughWebb after the win. “Defense has been the key to our success in therecent weeks. We scored the critical hits. I’m proud of mygirls.”

Senior Nikki McCardle (18-9) was the winning pitcher in bothgames. Brooke Kuluz (8-9) took the losses.
