Mass choir going on tour in advance of 20th anniversary

St. James Missionary Baptist Church will play host to one of thestate’s premiere singing troupes this Saturday.

The award-winning Mississippi Mass Choir will kick off itsPre-20th Year Anniversary Tour in Brookhaven Saturday at 7 p.m.Organizers say the tour will encompass every city and town in thestate from which one of its members hails.

“We’ve been singing 20 years in May of 2008, so we’re starting apreview tour leading up to May of ’08,” said Brookhaven residentand choir member Lillian Lilly. “What the choir is doing is thateach town in Mississippi that the choir members are living in,we’ll go to that area.”

Lilly and her son and daughter-in-law, Waldo and Dietra Lilly,are Brookhaven’s three active members of the Mississippi MassChoir.

Valerie Blue of the Mannery-Williams Agency said the group hasperformed in Brookhaven before.

“We’ve been at St. James before, and it was a really goodexperience,” she said. “Wherever the choir travels we find thepeople are hungry for us, and more so hungry for the Lord and whatHe has to share with them through the choir.”
