Forest Hill is the new kid on the block and Brookhaven headcoach Tucker Peavey said the Rebels can’t be taken lightly, despitetheir 2-4 record. Joining Region 6-4A this season, the Forest HillRebels dropped from Class 5A.

Homecoming 2007 arrives on King Field Friday night with thepregame coronation of Queen Swayze Black. Forest Hill provides theopposition for the 7 p.m. kickoff.

Peavey, in his sixth year at the helm, said he has never coachedagainst Forest Hill. He played against the Rebels during his highschool career at BHS in the early 1980s.

“Forest Hill has a pretty athletic team,” said Peavey. “Theirquarterback is a good player.” According to the game films, No. 7(Jason Johson, 6-1, 185, sr.); and No. 6 (Terence Bennett, 5-10,180, sr.) share time at quarterback.

“(Rebels) spread the field on offense,” said Peavey. “They runfour-wide and throw the football a lot.”

The Rebels (2-4, 1-1), coached by Mario Lane, are fresh from a28-6 win over Port Gibson. They beat Jckson Bailey 41-0 earlier inthe season. Losses have come at the hands of Wingfield, 21-14;Murrah, 39-26; and Mendenhall, 31-15.

“On defense, they do a lot of blitzing, probably similar toMendenhall,” Peavey explained. He said defensive end No. 90(Patrick Black, 6-0, 200, soph.), a linebacker No. 32 (Chris Ellis,5-11, 200, sr.) and a defensive back, No. 3 (La-Steven Jackson,5-11, 180, sr.) are some of the most active players on defense.

Currently leading the Region 6-4A race, Peavey said his Panthers(5-1, 3-0) must focus on the task at hand and avoid the numeroushomecoming distractions.

In last week’s 43-32 victory at Lawrence County, seniorquarterback Charles (Bobo) Rancifer powered Brook’s offense with228 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. He rushed for 2 touchdowns andpassed for 2 more, hooking up with wide receiver Simmie Yarboroughon a 35-yard TD pass and an 8-yarder to Marcus McGee.

Yarborough also returned a kickoff 79 yards for a TD. SemmieSmith rushed for 68 yards and a TD. Chris Lowman kicked a 24-yardfield goal in the offensive shootout.

The Panthers produced 360 yards total offense compared toLawrence County’s 382. Brookhaven’s offensive line includes BudBritt at tight end, Darion Smith at center, Grady Autman at lefttackle, Anthony Harris at left guard, Derrick Henderson at righttackle and Quartez Lyons at right guard.

Brookhaven’s Players of the Week were Rancifer on offense,Cordai Henderson on defense and Yarborough on special teams. JarvisWilbert led the defense against Lawrence County with 9 tackles.Henderson made 8 tackles and LaTerrius Williams 7.

Panther Paws: Brookhaven hasn’t played ForestHill since 1993, when Coach Rusty Funk’s Panthers beat the Rebels35-23 in an Oct. 7th homecoming date.
