Franklin Co. girls blitzed

MERIDIAN — The Franklin County Lady Bulldogs’ 2007 slowpitchsoftball season ended late Tuesday night as Southeast Lauderdaleeliminated FC in a two-game sweep in the first round of theMississippi Class 3A State playoffs. The hosts beat the Bulldogs19-2 and 16-0.

Franklin County, coached by Dana and Mickey Smith, finishes theseason 19-11 overall. FC finished with a school-record for winsthis season.

Jessica Rose pitched the win. Jennifer Ruffin added a homer anda double to do in FCHS.

Heather Havard absorbed the loss for FC. Havard won aschool-record 16 games this fall.

“They had three grand slams, one in the first game and two inthe second game,” said FC head coach Dana Smith, recallingSoutheast Lauderdale’s home run spree.

While the Lady Tigers (27-3), the Region 5-3A champion, hadlittle problem hitting the ball, the Lady Bulldogs, Region 6-3A’sNo. 2 seed, struggled.

Rose collected the win on the mound again to improve herpitching record to an eye-opening 26-3.

Havard suffered the loss.

Ruffin added a home run and two singles.
