Lady ‘Cats eliminate E. Webster

BOGUE CHITTO — The Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats eliminated the EastWebster Lady Wolverines Tuesday night in the South State Class 1AChampionship Tuesday night. This was the fourth consecutive SouthState title for the Lady ‘Cats.
East Webster won the opener 6-4. Bogue Chitto rallied for a 9-8win in the second contest and came back for a 5-4 victory in the9-inning finale.
In the 5-4 win, Bogue Chitto’s Darcy Miller ripped a sacrificefly to score the pinch runner from third base and break the 4-alltie and send the Lady ‘Cats into the state championship game.
Bogue Chitto (20-14) faces West Union for the 1A StateChampionship Saturday morning at VA Field in Jackson. The firstgame of the best-of-three series begins at 11 a.m.
West Union (28-7) eliminated Smithville Tuesday night in a bestof three series. West Union won the first game 3-0, lost the secondgame 10-0 and won the third game 9-3.
“I want to thank God,” said Bogue Chitto head coach ScottLeggett. “These girls are playing with heart and playing for him.East Webster is an excellent team. I love these girls.”
East Webster finished the season with a 29-8 worksheet.
“It was three outstanding games,” said East Webster coach BillBrand. “Bogue Chitto made the plays when needed. Coach Leggett doesa god job with them. We had opportunities but couldn’t doanything.”
East Webster 6, Bogue Chitto 4
East Webster jumped on Bogue Chitto for a 5-3 lead in the firstinning. Each team added a run in the fifth for the 6-4 lead.
Maribeth Avent was the winning pitcher, fanning 3 batters andwalking 1. Darcy Miller took the loss with 1 strikeout and 1walks.
For the ‘Cats, shortstop Kelli Howard smashed a homer, a doubleand a single. Caitlin Owen doubled and singled. A pair of singleswere hit by Darcy Miller. Doubling was Shaquille Burton. JosiePorter and Jessie Miller hit safely.
The Wolverines were led by shortstop Jessi Halterman with a homerun and a single. Swayze Hollenhead doubled and singled twice.Singling twice were Tyeshia Thomas and Avent. Felicia Parnell,Caitlin Williamson, Cayley McCleland and Paisley Hollenheadsingled.
East Webster outhit Bogue Chitto 13-10. Each team committed 2errors.
Bogue Chitto 9, East Webster 8
In the second game, East Webster tied the game at 8-all with 1run in the seventh inning. Bogue Chitto scored the game-winner inthe top of the ninth for the win.
The ‘Cats overcame 8 errors and the Wolverines committed 3.
Darcy Miller posted the win with no strikeouts and 4 walks.Avent struck out 1 and walked 3.
Hollenhead tripled and singled for East Webster. CaitlinWilliamson and Avent singled twice apiece. Singling were DarlyndaWilson, Morgan Card and Jordan Sisk.
Caitlin Owen led Bogue Chitto with a double and 3 singles.Burton followed with a triple and a pair of singles. Amanda Owendoubled and singled. Hitting safely were Darcy Miller, Howard,Porter, Jessie Miller and Mikki Mitchell.
Bogue Chitto 5, East Webster 4
Bogue Chitto tied the game at 3-all in the sixth inning. In theeighth, both teams scored a run to tie the game at 4-4.
Darcy Miller was the winning hurler with 1 strikeout and 1 walk.Avent recorded no strikeouts and no walks in the loss.
Bogue Chitto outhit East Webster 12-8 at the plate. The ‘Catscommitted 5 errors and the Wolverines made 4.
The Wolverines led 2-1 after the first inning. East Websteradded another run in the third for the 3-1 lead before Bogue Chittotied it in the sixth.
Leading the ‘Cats to the win with a double and 2 singles wasHoward. Caitlin Owen, Amanda Owen and Roberts each drilled 2singles apiece. Burton doubled. Bradi Davis and Jessie Millersingled.
For the Wolverines, Halterman homered and singled. She received4 intentional walks in the game. Thomas singled 3 times. Hittingsafely were Sisk, Parnell and Williamson.
