Avants leads Bobcats past Pisgah Dragons

PISGAH — Bogue Chitto junior quarterback Seth Avants helpedpower the Bobcats to a 26-13 Region 4-1A win over the PisgahDragons Friday night. Avants completed 5 of 15 passes for 103 yardsand carried the football 20 times for 119 yards and scored atouchdown.

Bogue Chitto trailed Pisgah 7-0 in the first quarter but cameback in the second quarter with 14 points for a 14-7 lead at thehalf. The ‘Cats outscored the Dragons 12-6 in the second half.

“We came out flat in the first half,” said Bogue Chitto headcoach Gareth Sartin. “It took us a while to get things going. Wewere able to get things done.

“The defense played well,” continued Sartin. “We held them toaround 100 yards on offense.”

Bogue Chitto, rebounding from its first loss, improved to 7-1overall and 7-1 in the region. Pisgah fell to 2-6 overall and 2-5in region play.

A 55-yard punt return by Donatello Luckett put Pisgah up 7-0 inthe first quarter. The extra point kick was good.

Bogue Chitto put up 14 points in the second quarter to take a14-7 lead at the half. Avants scored on a 2-yard touchdown at the9:53 mark and Cole Laird recoded the second TD on an 8-yard runwith 1:36 left. Avants ran for the 2-point conversion.

In the third quarter, Brian Robinson exploded for a 48-yardtouchdown and a 20-7 lead for the ‘Cats after the pass for 2 pointsfailed with 7:48 showing on the clock.

With 11:02 remaining to play, Laird scored on a 31-yard run topush the Bogue Chitto lead to 26-0.

Luckett scored a 76-yard TD on the kickoff return to trim thedeficit to 26-13 with 11:30 left in the game.

Following Avants was Laird with 14 carries for 115 yards for the’Cats. Robert Anderson had 10 yards on 6 carries.

Robinson led the Bogue Chitto receiving corp with 3 catches for77 yards. With 1 reception for 16 yards was D.J. Turner. ShaunWallace had 1 catch for 10 yards.

On defense, Austin Jones led the ‘Cats with 15tackles. Scottie Brown, Cole Laird and Fred Tillman made 11 stopsapiece. Robert Lewis and Anderson finished with 8 tackles apiece.Tillman also recovered a fumble.

Bogue Chitto has an open date this week. The ‘Cats return toplay Nov. 2, hosting West Lincoln.
