Lady ‘Cats bring home 1A crown

JACKSON — The fourth time proved to be a charm for the BogueChitto Lady ‘Cats. Making their fourth straight appearance in theClass 1A state championship, finals Bogue Chitto finally won itall.

It took three games, but Bogue Chitto put away the West UnionLady Eagles for the championship. The ‘Cats fell to the Eagles 8-4in the first game but came back to shut out the West Union 10-0 inthe second game and 7-5 in the deciding game.

“It feels good to finally get it,” said Bogue Chitto head coachScott Leggett. “We have to thank God for this. He helped our girlscome through some tough battles. These girls are true championswith heart.

” I will cherish and remember this for the rest of my life,”continued Leggett. “I also want to thank my wife Denise. She is abig part in my life and the team. I love her.”

Bogue Chitto wraps up the season with a 22-15 record. West Unionfinished with a 25-16 worksheet.

“I want to give Coach Leggett credit and respect,” said WestUnion head coach Andy Kirk. “He has a great team and he isdeserving. Bogue Chitto made the plays and we did not. This was twoteams evenly matched and they fought hard.”

Going 2-for-1 on the mound for the Lady ‘Cats was Darcy Miller.Miller finished the series with 1 strikeout, 1 walk and 1intentional walk. Rachel Baker finished 1 for 2 in the loss,striking out 4 batters, walking 5 and intentionally walking 3.

West Union 8, Bogue Chitto 4

In the first game, West Union led Bogue Chitto 4-1 after 4innings. Miller ripped a home run in the top of the fifth to score2 runs, cutting the deficit to 4-3. But the Eagles answered back inthe bottom of the fifth with 4 runs to push their lead to 8-4. The’Cats added another run in the seventh but remained 4 runsbehind.

Bogue Chitto was led at the plate by Miller with a home run andsingle. Bradi Davis singled twice. Tripling was Josie Porter.Hitting safely were Kelli Howard, Shaquille Burton, Amanda Owen andBlaine Myers.

Claire Wilkerson powered West Union with a homer and a single.Ripping a pair of singles each were Amber Maxey and Kim Jumper.Brittany McGregor doubled. Singling were Carley Wilkerson, AutumnDenham, Jessica Gates and Balker.

The Eagles committed 3 errors to the ‘Cats 1.

Bogue Chitto 10, West Union 0

Second-game action saw the ‘Cats dominate the Eagles. BogueChitto outhit West Union 10-3 at the plate. The Eagles had 4errors.

Bogue Chitto jumped on West Union in the first inning for a 7-0lead. The ‘Cats added 1 run in the second, third and fifth inningto force the 10-run rule and end the game.

At the plate, Bogue Chitto was sparked by Porter, Howard andMiller with 2 singles apiece. Burton smashed a triple. CaitlinOwen, Morgan Roberts and C. Owen singled.

Leading West Union with a pair of singles was Jumper. Gates hitsafely.

Bogue Chitto 7, West Union 5

In the deciding game, the Eagles ouhit the ‘Cats 11-6 and bothteams committed 2 errors.

Directing Bogue Chitto with 2 doubles and a single was DarcyMiller. Howard tripled. Doubling were Jessie Miller and Porter.

Jumper paced West Union with a triple and 2 singles. Gatesdoubled and singled. Collecting 2 singles was Taylor. CarleyWilkerson, Claire Wilkerson, McGregor and Balker hit safely.
