McLaurin swats Jackets

The visiting McLaurin Tigers completely dominated the EnterpriseFighting Yellow Jackets Friday night and came away with a 51-14victory.

McLaurin picked up 432 offensive yards in moving its record to4-4 on the season (2-2 in Region 6-2A). The Jackets, with 213yards, fell to 2-6 (0-4 in 6-2A).

“Congratulations (go) to McLaurin,” said Enterprise head coachRoe Burns. “They’re by far the best division team we’ve played. Wedidn’t have the speed or height to play with their receivers.Offensively, we had a good first half.

“We just hurt ourselves with penalties,” Burns noted. “We had atouchdown wiped out by a penalty.”

The Tigers needed eight plays to get on the scoreboard in theirfirst possession for the only points of the first quarter. MichaelYoung hit Sedric Walker for a 22-yard touchdown pass at the 3:03mark. Jeffrey Moreland added the PAT for a 7-0 score.

McLaurin quickly expanded their lead to 28-0 in the secondquarter as Jeremy Collier scored on a six-yard run with 9:57 leftin the half; Young fired a 20-yard touchdown pass wot AnthonyWalker with 6:35 on the clock; and, Young ran for a 76-yardtouchdown with 3:45 remaining. Moreland added all three extrapoints.

The Jackets reached the scoredboard for the first time with 1:40to go in the half. Quarterback Cody Brister hit Jarrett Todd for anine-yard touchdown pass and then ran for the two-point conversionto make the score 28-8 at the break.

McLaurin wasted little time getting on the board in the secondhalf as Young and Sedric Walker connected for a 64-yard touchdownpass at the 11:46 mark. Moreland’s PAT increased the score to 35-8.With 7:34 left in the quarter, Young hit Anthony Walker for anothertouchdown, this time from 46 yards out. A bad snap on the extrapoint led to a failed two-point conversion attempt leaving theTigers’ lead at 41-8.

The lead went to 43-8 with 12 seconds left in the quarter whenEnteprise punter Caleb Foster was forced to down the ball in theend zone after a bad snap.

McLaurin scored its final points of the game and went up 51-8 ona 23-yard touchdown run by Cornelius Cameron with 9:16 left in thegame. Young passed to Joseph Foote for the two-pointconversion.

Enterprise scored its final points of the night with 8:40 leftremaining as MT Martin raced to paydirt for a 45-yardtouchdown.

Young led 10 McLaurin runners with six carries for 40 yards.Collier ran for 25 yards and a touchdown on six carries whileCameron had 37 yards and a score on five carries.

Young completed six of 13 passes for 226 yards and fourtouchdowns. Keenan Daniels had a 20-yard completion. Anthony Walkerhad three catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Sedric Walkerhad three catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

The Tigers had 12 first downs in the game and were penalizedeight times for 70 yards. They lost their only fumble.

The Enterprise ground game was led by Martin’s 84 yards and onetouchdown on nine carries. Josh Nations ran seven times for 34yards and Thomas Allen had 30 yards on five carries.

Brister completed four of 12 passes for 53 yards and atouchdown. Trent Herrington, Deon Pendleton, Martin and Todd allhad receptions. Todd’s catch went for a touchdown.

Travis Leggett led the Jackets’ defense with 12 tackles and afumble recovery. Taylor Allen had 11 stops and Martin hadseven.

Enterprise has 12 first downs in the game and four penalties for40 yards. They lost their only fumble. Foster punted twice for a32-yard average.

The Jackets take to the road for their next contest as theyvisit region leader St. Andrew’s at Ridgleand. McLaurin returnshome to face Wesson.
