Achord bags M-S defense recognition

JACKSON — Brookhaven Academy product Cameron Achord has beennamed the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player Of The Week. The5-foot-10, 165-pound sophomore defensive back was credited with 15total tackles and one interception in Belhaven College’s 25-21victory over Shorter College.

Achord was a medical redshirt his freshman year at Belhaven. Heis a 2-year starter at safety and wears jersey No. 14.

Belhaven’s victory also earned senior wide-out Graylin Allisonthe Mid-South’s Offensive Player of the Week award. He caught 9passes for 161 yards and 1 touchdown. Allison is a senior fromFlorence.

The Mid-South’s Special Teams Player of the Week honor went toBelhaven punter Michael Wilson. The Madison sophomore tallied 3punts for a total of 164 yards, his longest 82 yards, setting aBelhaven record.

Coach Don Lee’s Belhaven Blazers (3-5, 2-2) travel to LambuthUniversity this Saturday. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m.
