The Brookhaven Academy Cougars host the winless Adam CountyChristian School Rebels Friday night in non-district footballaction. The game begins at 7 p.m.

In area academy action, Copiah entertains District 4-AA foeColumbia Academy and Parklane travels to Silliman Institute inClinton, La.

In Brookhaven’s 28-19 win at Columbia Academy last week, theCougars had 2 starters sustain injuries. Split end/defensive backTy Smith broke 3 bones in his foot and is lost for the remainder ofthe season. Junior fullback/linebacker Kolby Byrd sustained anankle injury and will sit out the ACCS game according to BrookhavenAcademy head football coach Bo Milton.

Trip Jolly, a sophomore, will replace Smith at split end for therest of the season. Jonathan White, who alternated at defensiveback with Smith, will play the position.

Last Friday, ACCS fell to Prairie View 22-0.

“ACCS has gotten a lot better,” said Milton. “They could haveeasily quit. They have stayed in the big games. They have troublefinishing drives.

“They are running team,” continued Milton. “They are going topound it straight ahead at you.”

In the win over Columbia, Brookhaven quarterback Daniel Loftonled with 174 yards passing, completing 11 of 20 passes for atouchdown and was intercepted once. Cory Dickerson caught 7 passesfor 125 yards and a touchdown.

The Cougar offensive line includes Caleb Williams at center;Garrett Posey, left guard; Patrick Wallace, left tackle; WillGatlin, right guard; and Caleb Covington, right tackle.

On the ground, Lofton rushed the football 17 times for 93 yardsand scored a TD for the Cougars.

Adding support for Brookhaven with 7 carries for 50 yards and atouchdown was Nathaniel Sbravati.

On defense, the Cougars were led by Steven Watts with 9 tackles.Caleb Dorman and Lofton finished with 7 stops apiece.

“We have to keep the ball away from ACCS,” added Milton. “Theylike to control the clock. We have to throw and catch like we havedone the last two weeks. And have no turnovers.”

Last year, ACCS nipped Brookhaven 21-20 at Natchez.

Copiah secured second place in District 4-AAwith a 20-3 district win at Mendenhall over Simpson County. TheColonels (8-1, 2-1) entertain Columbia Academy at Gallman.

“Columbia is a good football team,” said Copiah first year headcoach Scotty Cline. “It should be an emotional night. It is seniornight for us. It could be their last game at Copiah.”

Cline said Columbia likes to run the ball. “Columbia is a morerun than pass team. But they can hurt you with both. They are likeus, going with two receivers out of the I.”

DAILY LEADER Offensive Player of the Week Daniel Lofton directedCopiah in its win over Simpson. Sims, a senior, completed 20 of 31passes for 260 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Copiah offensive line includes Matthew Wright at lefttackle; Bryce Sharp, left guard; Rob Pyron, center; Gary Strong,right guard; and Dustin Merchant, right tackle. The tight ends areAlex Guess and Bryce Guess.

Leading the Colonel receivers with 8 catches for 137 yards wassenior wide receiver Hunter Greer.

Defensively, Copiah was led by senior linebacker Alex Guess with8 tackles.

In last season’s game, Copiah shut out Columbia 32-0.

Parklane put away Presbyterian Christian 35-6last week and faces Silliman Institute for a tough road game. ThePioneers, coached by Charlie Newlon, stand 4-4 on the season and is2-3 in District 2-AAA.

In the win over Presbyterian Christian, Parklane tailback AaronRushing broke the 1,000-yard rushing mark with 16 carries for 181yards and 2 touchdowns. Rushing, a sophomore, totaled 1,109 yardsrushing on the season.

Silliman fell to Central Private 12-7 last Friday.

Last season, Parklane ripped Silliman 25-10.
