West Lincoln Bears at home; Jackets, Hornets in road tests

The West Lincoln Bears play their final home game of the seasonFriday night, hosting the St. Aloysius Flashes at Perry MillerField in Region 4-1A football action. The game kicks off at 7p.m.

In other Lincoln County football action, Enterprise travels St.Andrew’s and Loyd Star visits Madison St. Joseph.

Brookhaven and Bogue Chitto have an open date this week.

West Lincoln is still looking for its first win of the seasonwhen the Bears hosts the Vicksburg St. Al Flashes. The Bears,coached by Brooks Burns, were crushed 49-0 last Friday against thePelahatchie Chiefs.

St. Aloysius suffered a big 33-7 loss at the hands of MadisonSt. Joe last week.

West Lincoln head coach Brooks Burns said St. Aloysius is atalented team.

“St. Al’s offensive and defensive lines are big,” stated Burns.”Their quarterback (Chris Lewis) is a good athlete. He makes gooddecisions. He has a strong arm. Their fullback (Justin Hoseman) isa good athlete.

“They run the ball most of the time,” continued Burns. “Theyhave thrown it more than anybody we have played this year.”

West Lincoln’s Nathaniel Pruski is lost the for remainder of theseason after sustaining torn ligaments in his lower leg during thePelahatchie game last Friday.

On the season, West Lincoln is 0-8 and 0-7 in the region. St. Alfell to St. Joe 33-7 last Friday.

Enterprise travels to Ridgeland to face the topteam in Region 6-2A in the St. Andrew’s Saints. The Fighting YellowJackets, under Coach Roe Burns, were hammered 51-14 by McLaurinlast Friday in another region test. Enterprise remains 0-4 inregion action and 2-6 on the season.

St. Andrew’s is 6-2 overall and 4-0 in region play.

In the loss to McLaurin, Jacket quarterback Cody Bristercompleted 4 of 12 passes for 53 yards and a touchdown.

The Enterprise ground game was led by M.T. Martin with 9 carriesfor 84 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Jackets were led by Travis Leggett with 12tackles and a fumble recovery. Making 11 stops was TaylorAllen.

Loyd Star is coming off a 14-0 region loss toSt. Andrew’s. The Hornets, under first-year head coach Ryan Ross,travel to Madison to meet the St. Joe Bruins in another key regionmatchup. The Hornets are 3-4 overall and 1-3 in region play. TheBruins stand 5-3 on the season and are 3-1 in region action.

In the loss to St. Andrew’s, sophomore quarterback Joseph Shelbystarted for Loyd Star and completed 10 out of 25 passes for 200yards and was intercepted twice. John C. Smith caught 6 passes for85 yards followed by Antoine Smith with 2 catches for 93 yards

Donald Shorter led the Hornet running game with 10 carries for39 yards.
