Colonels survive in overtime

HATTIESBURG — Richard Henley kicked a 25-yard field goal togive the Copiah Academy Colonels a 17-14 overtime win Friday nightagainst the Presbyterian Christian School Bobcats. The game wastied 14-14 going into the OT.

Copiah, coached by Scottie Cline, finished the regular seasonwith a 10-1 record and is 3-1 in the District 4-AA. The Colonels’only loss in district was to Brookhaven Academy which finished No.1 in the district.

The Colonels are the defending Class AA state football champs andthe No. 2 seed out of District 4. Copiah begins state tournamentplay Friday at Prairie View, La. (Dist. 3. No. 2).

Colonel quarterback Daniel Sims connected to Hunter Greer on a13-yard pass play for the first Copiah TD and a 7-0 lead followinga PAT kick from Henley.

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard first in the third quarter on a95-yard pass interception return by Jordan Dearman followed by aGarner Bell PAT to tie the game at 7-7.

Before the end of the third quarter, Copiah struck on a 99-yardpass-play from Sims to Greer for the six points. A PAT kick byHenley gave Copiah a 14-7 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Bobcat quarterback David Roberts connectedwith Andrew Myers on a 12-yard completion for the touchdown. Bell’skick was good and the game was deadlocked 14-all and forced theOT.
