Hinds AHS squashes Jackets

UTICA — The Enterprise Fighting Yellow Jackets wrapped up theirfirst year in Region 6-2A with a 41-22 loss at the hands of theHinds AHS Bulldogs Friday night.

Under Coach Roe Burns, Enterprise finished the season 0-6 in theregion and 2-8 on the season. The Bulldogs raised their record to2-8 overall and 2-4 in the region.

Hinds’ Corbin Edwards put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard at the6:01 mark on a 33-yard touchdown run. Kendra Williams kicked theextra point for a 7-0 lead.

Josh Nations scored a 3-yard touchdown for Enterprise followed by a2-point conversion pass-play from quarterback Cody Brister to MTMartin to take an 8-7 lead with 1:24 left.

With no time remaining, Cedric Thompson burst loose for a 60-yardtouchdown run and Williams kicked the PAT for a 14-8 lead in thefirst quarter.

The Bulldogs broke loose and scored 3 touchdowns in the secondquarter for a 35-8 lead. Edwards scored on runs of 1 and 10-yardsfollowed by a 65-yard interception return by Timothy Miles. JaMarioFunch kicked a PAT and Miles scored a 2-point conversion.

Hinds added its final TD in the thirdquarter on a 25-yard burst by Edwards. The PAT kick failed as thehosts pushed its lead to 41-8.

Fourth quarter action saw Enterprise score 14 points and cut thedeficit to 41-22. Brister scored a 4-yard TD and Martin a 1-yarder.Deon Pendleton ran for a 2-point conversion.

The Jackets collected 12 first downs and 221 yards total offense.Enterprise rushed the football 47 times for 194 yards.

Powering the Enterprise running game with 11 carries for 80 yardswas Martin. Brister finished with 60 yards on 7 rushes. BradPrather carried 4 times for 27 yards.

Brister completed 3 of 6 passes for 27 yards. His leading receiverwas Taylor Herrington with 1 catch for 12 yards. Trent Herringtonfollowed with a catch for 8 yards and Michael Prather caught a passfor 7 yards.

Defensively, the Jackets were led by TravisLeggett with 11 tackles. Jake Walker made 8 stops and blocked apunt. Trey Boyd and Taylor Allen collected 7 tackles apiece.
